Sam Altman-backed Meanwhile raises $37.5M for Bitcoin insurance. Sam Altman-backed Bitcoin life insurer Meanwhile has secured $37.5 million in fresh funding led by Bain Capital Crypto, bringing its total capital raised above $180 million as the company expands its insurance business across international markets.
Meanwhile, it announced the investment on October 8, confirming participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital. The Bermuda-based insurer said the financing follows increased demand for its Bitcoin-denominated life insurance policies among wealthy families in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
The company has signed 15 insurance brokers serving wealthy clients across international financial centers, including Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile raises $37.5 million to expand Bitcoin insurance
The latest funding comes from existing investors, with Bain Capital Crypto returning as the lead investor after supporting the company’s previous financing rounds.
Meanwhile, it raised $82 million in October 2025 in a round jointly led by Bain Capital Crypto and Haun Ventures. The investment followed a $40 million Series A completed in April that year, when Framework Ventures and Fulgur Ventures backed the insurer’s international expansion.
The company’s earlier $40 million Bitcoin insurance funding supported plans to expand access to Bitcoin-based insurance, savings and related financial products.
The insurer expects the new funding to support its operations as it develops relationships with financial advisers and insurance intermediaries serving wealthy clients outside the United States.
Bitcoin life insurance allows customers to pay one premium
Meanwhile, its international expansion centers on BTC Life 1-Pay, a whole life insurance product introduced in early 2026 for wealthy customers living outside the U.S.
Unlike conventional policies that require repeated payments, BTC Life 1-Pay allows customers to purchase coverage through a single Bitcoin premium. In return, the insurer provides a guaranteed death benefit denominated in BTC.
Meanwhile signs 15 brokers across international markets
Since introducing BTC Life 1-Pay, Meanwhile has signed agreements with 15 brokers serving wealthy families across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Among the partners is Lioner, an insurance, trust and family office services provider with operations in Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich. Apeiron Group, a marketplace specializing in life insurance for wealthy clients, has joined the company’s distribution network.
Lioner partner Giorgio Jeni said clients with international investments were increasingly considering how digital assets fit into long-term wealth management.
Speaking about the demand, Jeni said: “Transparency, sound governance and strong regulation will remain important as new solutions emerge.”
Bermuda regulator licensed Meanwhile in July 2024
Meanwhile operates through Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited, which received a Class IILT insurance license from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) in July 2024.
The company spent approximately two years in the regulator’s insurance innovation sandbox before obtaining authorization to operate as a long-term insurer.
The BMA’s official register confirms that Meanwhile received its Class IILT license on July 25, 2024. The classification permits the company to provide long-term insurance products within the conditions of its authorization.
