Bitcoin rebounds with US stocks but stalls below $84,200 resistance

DateOct 21, 2026

Bitcoin has climbed back above $83,000 during Tuesday’s recovery in U.S. stocks before retreating toward $82,600, as falling oil prices accompanied gains across risk assets.

U.S. stocks gain as oil retreats

The S&P 500 rose 0.70% to 7,744.72 during Tuesday morning trading, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.59% to 26,585.47. Healthcare stocks reached a record high as oil prices fell, helping shares recover after last week’s technology-led selling.

The stock advance followed Monday’s rebound, when investors bought technology shares after concerns about CoreWeave’s debt and the cost of financing artificial intelligence infrastructure had weighed on the sector, according to the news agency.

Bitcoin remains below an analyst’s $84,200 threshold

Before Tuesday’s advance, crypto.news reported that trader Ardi had identified $84,200 as the level Bitcoin needed to clear to break its local bearish structure in an Oct. 16 assessment of Bitcoin’s recovery resistance.

The trader’s assessment followed a rebound from a weekly low near $79,800. At the time, Bitcoin hovered close to its 50-day moving average, which the daily chart placed at $81,279.

Ardi said he would consider long positions toward the top of the trading range after a break above his stated threshold. His condition required a move beyond the recent sequence of lower highs.

Glassnode records softer selling before the rebound

Glassnode’s Oct. 19 Market Pulse described a market where the selling behind the early October decline had faded without a matching recovery in demand.

Covering the week to Oct. 18, the firm found that perpetual futures traders remained net sellers, although selling had eased. ETF outflows narrowed to approximately $230 million, while ETF trading volume fell below the report’s lower reference band.

Spot trading showed continued aggressive selling. Glassnode placed spot cumulative volume delta at negative $83.6 million, compared with negative $67 million a week earlier.

Options traders continued paying for downside protection, the firm said, with 25-delta skew rising and implied volatility above realized volatility. On-chain fees and transfer volume each fell roughly 10%, while active addresses held steady.

October forecasts depend on demand and support

In comments published Oct. 1 on Bitcoin’s October support, ViaBTC chief analyst Jeff Ko and Bitget Wallet research lead Lacie Zhang identified $82,000 as an important downside level.

Zhang placed the principal downside liquidation area between $82,000 and $82,500 and warned that losing it could accelerate a fall toward $80,000. Her forecast was conditional on institutional buying absorbing sales from long-term holders and miners.

The research lead set an October range of 78,000–95,000, with a recovery above $87,500 required for her bullish scenario. A sustained decline below $80,000 would invalidate that seasonal setup, according to her assessment.

Ko described an earlier rally of more than 2% after the Personal Consumption Expenditures inflation release that briefly carried Bitcoin above $85,500 before the gains disappeared. Zhang cited expensive oil, high interest rates, and renewed inflation pressure among the obstacles to her October forecast.
